Ortho-bionomy

Ortho-Bionomy is an Osteopathic-based, hands-on, therapeutic bodywork that is an effective treatment suitable for both acute and chronic conditions. In an Ortho-Bionomy session, the client’s comfort is the first priority; gentle, non-invasive techniques are used to activate the innate self-correcting reflexes of the body. One of those reflex systems is the Proprioceptive Reflex. Proprioceptors are self-regulating receptors in the joints and muscles of the body that tell us about the position of our body parts in relation to each other, other individuals, and the environment around us.

When there is an injury or trauma to some part of our body, our Proprioception to that area can be affected, by either firing at the wrong time or not sending appropriate signals to our nervous system. This can affect the body’s ability to heal and its sense of space, balance, safety, and wellbeing. Studies have shown that activating the reflexes will re-awaken these senses, facilitate a release of tension and pain, create ease of movement, and allow the body to regain its original patterns of structural alignment and homeostasis.
